Abstract

The rocky limestone hills of the Tovtry rise in a scenic ridge above the surrounding plains of Podillya region. The Tovtry range is the remains of the barrier reef, which existed at the coastal waters of Sarmatsk sea 15-20 mln. years ago. The hills and ridges of fossil reef are preserved on the surface of earth in their primeval state with characteristic features and forms, and that is why the area is a unique memory of the geological past. Considered the main approaches to Tovtry rang division into the geographic areas. The problems and principles of the Podilian Tovtry contemporary regionalization are described at the article.
