Семантичні та прагматичні особливості англійських ідіом у романі Донни Тартт «Таємна історія»

Abstract

У магістерській роботі здійснено комплексний аналіз англійських ідіом як семантично цілісних та прагматично значущих одиниць у художньому дискурсі. Розкрито сутність поняття «ідіома», окреслено її структурні, семантичні та функціональні характеристики, подано огляд основних типологій ідіом та критеріїв їх класифікації. Проаналізовано семантичну багаторівневість ідіоматичних висловів, зокрема їх денотативні, конотативні, образні та прагматичні складові. Досліджено функціонування ідіом у романі Донни Тартт “The Secret History”. Визначено їх роль у формуванні індивідуального стилю авторки, створенні мовленнєвих характеристик персонажів, реалізації мовленнєвих актів та передачі емоційно-оцінних смислів. Окреслено вплив контексту на інтерпретацію ідіом і виявлено прагматичні стратегії, що реалізуються через їхнє вживання.

The master's thesis provides a comprehensive analysis of English idioms as semantically coherent and pragmatically significant units in artistic discourse. The study outlines the essence of the notion “idiom”, describes its structural, semantic and functional characteristics, and presents the main classifications and typological approaches to idiomaticity. Special attention is given to the semantic multi-layered nature of idioms, including their denotational, connotational, imagistic and pragmatic components. The research focuses on the functioning of idioms in Donna Tartt’s novel “The Secret History”. The study reveals their role in shaping the author’s individual style, constructing characters’ speech patterns, expressing emotional and evaluative meanings, and realising various speech acts. The influence of context on the interpretation of idioms is analysed, as well as the pragmatic strategies employed through their use.
