«Китай. Пиріг королів та імператорів»: до історії однієї карикатури

Abstract

Стаття присвячена дослідженню особливостей візуалізації колоніальних змагань великих держав наприкінці ХІХ ст. у матеріалах засобів масової інформації. На прикладі однієї карикатури показано критичне ставлення французької газети «Le Petit Journal» до експансіоністських прагнень великих держав, ідей територіального розділу Китаю. У статті подається коротка історія газети та відомості про автора карикатури; аналізується політичний контекст сюжету, представленого на малюнку; показано, як карикатура «Китай. Пиріг королів та імператорів» А. Мейєра творила антиімперський дискурс у Франції, яка за своїм характером була імперською державою.

This article explores the particularities of the visualization of the great powers colonial competitions at the end of the 19th century in the materials of the mass media. By examining one cartoon the critical attitude to the expansionist aspirations of the great powers and to their ideas of territorial division of China of the French newspaper Le Petit Journal is shown. The article begins by setting up the history of the newspaper and presents the short information about the author of the cartoon. The article contextualizes the political events connecting the plot of cartoon. It is shown how the cartoon «China. Cake of kings and emperors» by H. Meyer created the anti-imperial discourse in France, which was by its nature an imperial power.
