Євген Коновалець і Український студентський союз

Abstract

У статті розкрито діяльність Євгена Коновальця в українському студентському русі. Акцент зосереджено на його діяльності в «Українському студентському союзі». Встановлено, що в національний студентський рух він інтегрувався ще з початку навчання в університеті. У результаті активної позиції Є. Коновалець поступово зайняв місце одного із тих, хто брав участь в організації управління та розвитку структур українського студентського середовище напередодні Першої світової війни. Належав до національно-демократичної секції студентського союзу. Ключовою темою, яку обстоював – було відкриття Українського університету в Львові.

The article concerns Yevhen Konovalets, a key figure of the Ukrainian national-liberation competitions. The way of his integration into the Ukrainian public life of Galicia in 1909–1913, which content was defi ned by international relations with Poles, is investigated. The disclosed problem allows the readers to understand the phenomenon of Konovalets within the national liberation competitions of the ХХ century. Having well mastered the work of a primary link of the national life, Konovalets in the end of 1912 was elected to the administrative bode of the Ukrainian student’s union. Besides, in the structure of Ukrainian student’s union Konovalets was a member, an assistant, and – from April, 1913 – the chairman of the ІV section which united students who were adherents of the Ukrainian nationaldemocratic party. The basic themes which he develops in his public work are connected with the organisation of educational work among the Ukrainian population of Lviv region and, also, the struggle for the Ukrainian university. In Konovaleys’ activity a desire and an ability to analyze the situation and then to publicly represent before listeners are his eminent features, which he demonstrated in his reports at different levels of the Ukrainian national life. In general, all the above said allowed Konovalets in his student years to occupy the key positions in the educational and political life Galicia’s youth. From the view of Konovalets’ further activity, it gives the chance to understand that he was not a casual fi gure in the Ukrainian national-liberation competitions, beginning from the end of 1917 in Kiev and to his murder in Rotterdam in 1938.
