Відзначено, що його громадсько-політична праця наштовхнулася на рішучий опір партійних чиновників усіх рівнів, проте, налагодивши відносини з дисидентами, український правозахисник на зламі 80–90-х рр. Констатовано, що навесні 1990 р. він не був обраний депутатом Верховної Ради Української РСР, проте здобув мандат депутата Львівської обласної ради першого демократичного скликання. Гель вважав мобілізацію державницьких, патріотичних сил Львівщини зокрема та Галичини загалом на розвал і демонтаж комуністичної системи.; The state-building activity of the Lviv regional council of the first democratic convocation was characterized through the prism of the figure of Ivan Gel, a well-known Ukrainian public figure, dissident, human rights defender, talented publicist. It is noted that after his release from prison, his anticommunistic public-political work faced strong opposition from the Communist Party officials, however, having established relations with dissidents and other opposition figures, the Ukrainian human rights activist managed to return to the political arena of the region and began a «struggle for Ukrainian statehood», which at the turn of the 80’s – 90’s of the twentieth century manifested, in particular, in participation in elections to the Verkhovna Rada of the Ukrainian SSR and local authorities. It was stated that I. Gel’s defeat at the elections to the Verkhovna Rada of the Ukrainian SSR and a convincing victory in the elections to the Lviv Regional Council. It is noted that after gaining the mandate of the deputy of Lviv regional council of the first democratic convocation, I. Gel, given his unquestionable authority among the members of the parliament, was elected deputy chairman of this Soviet body. By concrete examples it is shown that in his position the Ukrainian dissident affirmed national ideals, exposed the crimes of the communist regime against the Ukrainian people, sharply criticized the Communist Party officials at all levels, which by their actions / inaction prevented the approximation of the sovereignty of the Ukrainian state. It was noted that the greatest achievement of the Lviv regional council of the first democratic convocation, I. The authors are investigating his pedagogical work related to teaching, directing positions in the field of education. Krushelnytskyi as a teacher and director, due to various circumstances, was often forced to change educational institutions, posts. It was emphasized that in the educational process A. Krushelnytsky tried to distribute works of Ukrainian authors among high school students, interested in their events from the historical past. He raised the students in a patriotic spirit to be capable of critical perception and comprehension of the historical past in the absence of a national school.
